Clever Smuglers Use Fake Carrots to Transport Weed

Smugglers Disguise Weed as Carrots

Texas border agents got quite a surprise this week when they found over a ton of marijuana disguised as rather large carrots.

A big rig was hauling produce across the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge along the Texas/Mexico border near the Gulf of Mexico when the truck caught the attention of U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. The imaging inspection system saw some anomalies and flagged the shipment for secondary inspection.

After the more in-depth secondary inspection, agents discovered marijuana hidden inside carrot-shaped packages that were packed along with legitimate carrots.

Marijuana Price Index: November 2015

After months of instability and price fluctuations, the mid-grade index actually held steady in November finishing only $3 away from its year-to-date average. The overall U.S. marijuana price index is up an impressive $23 from the previous month. This is due in large part to a rise in top-shelf prices, which clocked in a full $10 above its year-to-date average.

Marijuana Price Index: October 2015

Marijuana Price Index: October 2015

It has been another wild ride for the mid-grade index in October. The grade has definitely seen its share of ups and downs as of late. It hit a nine-month low back in July, and in last month’s Marijuana Price Index mid-grade was at an 11-month low. But recently the winds have changed and the mid-grade market has been helped out by the initial wave of this year’s west coast outdoor harvest, which blew up in October. In all, the grade was up a big $20, and by this indicator this year’s batch of outdoor ganja looks to be a good one.

It’s been widely reported that marijuana legalization is causing organized crime to take a hit in the pocketbook.

Down south, the Mexican cartels’ incomes have been significantly cut due to the legalization movement sweeping across the western United States. And to our north, it now seems that the Canadian Hells Angels are none too happy with the newly elected liberal government and their recently announced plans to legalize marijuana. In fact, the Hells Angels were unhappy enough to show up at Canadian parliament in large droves and protest the new regime’s plans.

Marijuana Price Index: September 2015

For the most part, September was a pretty steady month. However, there always seems to be one grade that refuses to “fall in” with the rest, and this month it’s mid-grade. The mid-grade price index dropped a whopping $17 to reach an 11-month low, and this is after rebounding from a nine-month low in August. All other grades fell within their year-to-date averages.
