It’s no secret that marijuana has become mainstream. Presidential candidates discuss it, doctors recommend it, and even CNN dedicates primetime on-air space to it. And, thanks to the Oakland Museum of California, people can now be publicly educated about it.
The Oakland Museum of California will be hosting an exhibit from April 16-September 25 2016 called “Altered State: Marijuana in California”, which makes them the first U.S. museum to feature cannabis.
While the burgeoning cannabis industry is in the headlines just about every day, there has yet to be any real inside look at how legal weed actual operates. There have been talks about NBC hosting a marijuana-themed sitcom, and networks like CNN dedicate considerable time slots to marijuana finance and industry, but something seems to be lacking. Knowing that legal weed is projected to be a $30 billion industry in the next five years is great, but the general public is equally, if not more, curious about the day-to-day operations.
Ever since journalist Maureen Dowd ate AN ENTIRE THC-laced candy bar and then spent the subsequent 8 hours lying on her hotel bed convinced she was dying, the testing and regulation of edibles has been a hot topic. Recently, OregonLive conducted an independent investigation regarding the potency of the marijuana edibles in their state. Their results were very different from those of the state-monitored laboratories.
There are all types of ways to enjoy cannabis these days. You have the traditional smoking, adding it as a special ingredient in your favorite baked goods, the newly popular vaporizers and now thanks to an Austrian based beverage company, you can drink it. The Cannabis Energy Drink, released in 2014, is an all-natural energy drink that includes hemp seed oil to appeal to cannabis lovers everywhere. Just like other energy drinks this one includes caffeine and sugar as its base, vitamin B complex, and Taurine. Unlike other energy drinks, this one contains cannabis.
While the United States is one of the leaders in the medicinal and recreational weed market, we aren’t the only country making strides toward legalization. Currently, lawmakers in the United Kingdom may consider a bill that would legalize cannabis for recreational use due to an online petition that garnered support from more than 150,000 people regarding the production, sale, and use of cannabis.
Because the petition has more than 100,000 signatures, it requires a formal response from the government, and the House of Commons must consider putting the item to debate.
