The cannabis industry took a major step towards legitimacy as Annie's–a medical marijuana dispensary in the Colorado mountain town of Central City–recently received the first business license in the history of the U.S. to sell recreational marijuana.
The license was personally delivered to Annie's by Central City's chief of police. A nice gesture, even considering the police station is conveniently located across the street from the store.
“It’s the same old bureaucratic piece of paper,” said dispensary representative Erin Phillips of the license. “But we might put it in a fancy frame.”
Colorado's first recreational marijuana businesses are scheduled to open Jan. 1, ensuring Colorado residents will indeed have a happy new year.
