I have been to a few grand openings for dispensaries before, but I had never seen one quite like Essence. When I pulled up there was a line out the door, and I kept thinking, this is going to take FOREVER (the process for checking a patient in for the first time can be a little onerous here in Nevada). I honestly considered leaving, but wanted to see how the process played out. I am glad I waited!
They had cold drinks while I was waiting in line and they were fully staffed with employees walking around welcoming guests and checking in their patients. I met up with Armen, one of the owners of Essence, to talk about Essence Las Vegas. I was impressed with their desire to be patient focused and he told me, “One of our core values is ‘patient focus,’ we could have opened much earlier but wanted to hold focus groups to understand what people like and what people don’t want in a dispensary.”
I snapped a couple pictures and soon as I knew it, my name was getting called and I was being introduced to my budtender. I was impressed with how quickly the line moved and how efficiently Essence was able to process patients.
The Look – The look of the store reminds me of an upscale electronics store (think Apple Store) with the budtenders placing all orders on an iPad and walking customers around, talking about the different strains, edibles, concentrates and accessories that Essence Vegas has to offer.
The Feel – The feeling is upscale, without the upscale prices. I was really impressed with the fact that things ran so smoothly. Clearly this company is operated by some folks who know what they are doing.

Essence scored standard on quality of marijuana and price. The selection of flower that dispensaries are able to purchase right now is limited. This limits the amount of product that they can offer patients. This is going to change pretty rapidly as more grow operations come online and more products become available. Right now the pricing is pretty standard, $45-60 for an eighth, but I was actually quite impressed with the prices of their concentrates, which I found to be the lowest in town. I feel that Essence is going to be one of the pinnacles in Las Vegas Marijuana for years to come.
