Former boy band heartthrob and Ohio resident Nick Lachey is reportedly among a small group of investors interested in one of ten cannabis grow centers that would be created in the state under a new proposed ballot issue.
According to The Akron Beacon Journal, ResponsibleOhio is trying to get a measure on the November 3rd ballot that would legalize both recreational and medicinal marijuana in the state of Ohio. As of July 20, the group had collected at least $20 million in pledged money. However, they are currently wrapped up in allegations of fraud while trying to collect the minimum number of signatures necessary.
ResponsibleOhio claims that this initiative would generate about $21.5 million in annual tax revenue. In addition to that, this initiative will create and estimated 10,000 new permanent jobs, and another 10,000 construction jobs during the beginning phases of legal weed.
The issue would, however, limit the growing to specific locations where said investors, including Lachey, would finance or purchase the operations and land.
In a press release, Lachey said, “Ohio is my home, and as a resident and local business owner I am proud to be part of a movement that has the potential to create jobs, reinvigorate the local economy and improve the safety of our communities.” He continued, “Passage of this proposal will result in much-needed economic development opportunities across Ohio, and update the state’s position on marijuana in a smart and safe way.”
