Seattle Debuts Marijuana Vending Machines

Seattle cannaseurs are now able to purchase their weed with the push of a button.

Vending machines dispensing medical marijuana debuted at the Seattle Caregivers medical dispensary on Tuesday — the first time Washington state has seen such an innovation.

The first purchase from the ZaZZZ, the name given to the machine by its creator American Green Inc, was one gram of the Girl Scout Cookies strain for $15, according to a Reuters report.

The machine features a touch-screen menu with photos of available items that include flowers, edibles, and vaporizer kits. Buyers are verified by an ID-card scanner after their medical marijuana license is checked by a dispensary employee.

Although the machines are new to Washington, the ZaZZZ made its official premiere last year as an edible-only machine in Colorado, while California’s MedBox machines have also been around for some time now.

About five machines are planned to operate throughout Washington, with more expected to show up in the medical marijuana states of Colorado, California, Michigan, Rhode Island and Alaska.

“It’s a way to take something that has proven itself as a viable business model throughout the last century, and bring it into the 21st century,” said Stephen Shearin, president of American Green Inc.
