Name: Blueberry Kush
Type: Hybrid (indica dominant)
Genetics: OG Kush x Blueberry
Blueberry Kush is a mostly indica hybrid (80% indica, 20% sativa), and although a newer hybrid on the block, these genetics originate from the brushy cannabis plants that grow in the famously infamous mountainous Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan and Northern India. Blueberry Kush is cross between the Blueberry and OG Kush strains and is most known for its pronounced fruity smell as well as taste. Also known as Kushberry, the Blueberry Kush strain is a tasty example of highly selective new world breeding. The Blueberry was used in this hybrid for its fruity taste, smell, and vigor, while the OG Kush adds the DNA for the heavy Kush effects, medicinal values, and the legendary lemony-fuel taste and smell.
Looks and Smell
Blueberry Kush blossoms into a dense plant of short to medium height with a low to moderate production of buds. As the plant continues to mature, it starts to take on an increasingly purplish hue, and the buds are also strongly purple with a layer of silver crystals topped by red to orange hairs. The trichrome content is no joke—the average THC levels for this strain hover around the 20% range. When grown, harvested, and manicured with care (as I always do), these indica-dominant nugs are medium to dark green in color with plenty of vibrant orange pistil coverage. The buds are solid, but not ultra-dense.
It is important to note that the name Blueberry suggests some sort of purple hue on the buds, but this is not always necessarily the case. The color of Blueberry Kush is highly dependant on the climate and not so much on imbedded purple DNA. The nugs I had exuded a milder aroma than expected, but that sweet terpene profile provided me with fruity tones that also contained the classic, bold OG Kush funk following behind soon after. The smell lingered for a while, then transformed into a lemony-Pinesol scent with some skunkiness added in. When the container or baggie are opened, the smell can encompass the entire room.
Blueberry Kush is most widely known for the unique flavor of its smoke that starts off with the familial distinctive Kush undertones blended with the signature Skunk taste that then tapers off into a wonderful and lingering earthy, blueberry aftertaste. The strain is fast acting and a high intensity ride. This powerful indica-dominant hybrid continues to build until it climaxes in a blissful, peaceful, yet intoxicating state of mind and physical calmness. A definite all-time favorite of mine, this bud tastes distinctly Kush like, yet does not lose its blueberry roots. The combination of the blueberry flavor and the Kush flavor makes for a taste ever so similar to blueberry pancakes. The aroma and taste on the exhale are skunky and danky... All you can really hope for.
Overall, Blueberry Kush is one of those one-of-a-kind strains that is always considered a top shelf choice and is a favorite among medical marijuana users. This strain is part of the new hybrid movement that seems to drop a new one on us every day. Blueberry Kush does not disappoint considering its medicinal properties, decent yield, smooth smoke, and lovely high.
Growing Blueberry Kush is not generally recommended for the novice or new grower, as it can be somewhat sporadic while it is a teenager and will require much vigilance. Flowering can take anywhere from 6-10 weeks—needless to say, the longer you let the plant grow, the longer and bigger the buds and the larger the yield. Although not a huge yielder, you grow Blueberry Kush for love, not really as a commercial crop. Blueberry Kush has been recommended for the treatment of nausea, anorexia or other eating disorders, stress, anxiety, pain relief, and insomnia simply due to the high THC content. There really are no drawbacks with this strain. Although pretty close to a full indica, the little bit of sativa allows one to go about the day with little fog on the brain, and honestly I would use this strain day or night.
