Now you can pray to Buddha and smoke it too. In a recent trip to Mexico, spiritual leader the Dalai Lama came out in favor of medical marijuana use at a speaking event held by former Mexican president Vicente Fox, according to a report from AFP.
His Holiness extolled the virtues of marijuana's health benefits, but looked down upon its recreational use.
"But otherwise if it's just an issue of somebody (using the drug to have) a crazy mind, that's not good," he said after being asked his position on legalization at the outdoor event held at Guanajuato's Fox Center.
StT believes that the Dalai Lama learned his acceptance of medical marijuana through his old friend and Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (RIP MCA), who once rhymed "I'm a writer, a poet, a genius, I know it. I don't buy cheeba I grow it," but later in his Buddhist years was quoted in a song as saying, "Don't smoke cheeba, can't stand crack."
The Dalai Lama comes as the second most notable supporter of medical marijuana this year. Recently, celebrity physician Sanjay Gupta revealed his support for marijuana's medical benefits after years of saying quite the opposite.
