Men's Wearhouse Founder Says He's Been Smoking Weed for 50 Years

George Zimmer, the founder of Men’s Wearhouse who guarantees “you’re gonna like the way you look,” announced that he’s been recreationally smoking pot for the past half century — oh, and did he mention he’s a highly successful multi-millionaire?

“I’ve been smoking marijuana on a regular basis for about 50 years,” a smiling Zimmer told CNBC. “As you can see, it’s really impacted me in a negative way.”

Zimmer isn’t the only majorly successful businessperson to speak out in support of marijuana and its legalization. Fellow outspoken backers include Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey, billionaire financier George Soros, and late Progressive Insurance chairman Peter Lewis. Zimmer rounds out the count to five — and we can only assume more will join.

“Everybody in the country knows what the truth here is, except the 535 people we elect to make these decisions in Washington, D.C. It’s astounding,” Zimmer said in his keynote speech at the Cannabis World Congress & Business Expo in LA last week.

While Zimmer was forced out of Men’s Wearhouse two years ago, he gave an interview to Fortune explaining his unpleasant departure, and weed is not one of the reasons mentioned. In fact, like the other multi-millionaires publically in favor of legalization, supporting and enjoying marijuana hasn’t affected his ambition whatsoever. Already an extremely wealthy man well into his sixties, Zimmer has recently launched the tuxedo rental site Generation Tux and the menswear company zTailors.

When it comes down to it, when done responsibly and within your known limits (much like alcohol), enjoying weed recreationally is not going to destroy your drive and ruin your life — George Zimmer guarantees it.
