According to Forbes magazine, 2016 is going to be a tremendous year for the marijuana industry. The presidential election that happens in 2016 has started to revolve around marijuana legalization. There is a bill called the CARERS Act that would permit states to allow medical marijuana access without fear of the federal government interfering, and would also give states the ability to reschedule marijuana to a Schedule 2 instead of a Schedule 1 drug, resulting in much more research into our favorite plant.
Could Rescheduling Marijuana Be A Bad Thing?
Many are in support of rescheduling marijuana from a Schedule 1 to a Schedule 2 drug because of the medicinal access it would allow. Others fear this is just another ploy by the government and big pharma to take over and ruin something that has the potential to help millions. By rescheduling marijuana to a Schedule 2 drug, it could allow for even more governmental control than prohibition, in essence. Meaning, many fear the federal government could tell you when and where you can purchase marijuana and how much you could have, imposing even more restrictions than states with marijuana reform laws currently suffer.
With 16 states looking at marijuana legalization and several others expected to surface, combined with the presidential election, 2016 is set to make Forbes prediction come true.
