Chris Christie doesn’t like marijuana legalization. He’s not bothered by polls showing a majority of voters favor it. He’s running for president but keeps aligning himself in the minority on the issue of cannabis legalization because he can’t be bothered by things like “winning.” He continues to vocalize his opposition to legalization because, apparently, having any shot at being president is just not his thing.
New Jersey’s portly presidential pretender was recently on Fox and Friends and wanted to make sure that everyone knew of his opposition to legalization, in case anyone had missed it the first few times.
“Marijuana is against the law in the states and it should be enforced in all 50 states,” the governor said. “That’s the law and the Christie administration will support it.”
Wait, he wasn’t finished. “If you’re getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it,” Christie warned. “As of January 2017, I will enforce the federal laws.”
Is anyone really afraid of that happening? Even many of the other GOP contenders know that marijuana legalization is a lost cause and favor each state being able to make its own decision. Chris Christie stands alone in his incessant need to vocalize how much he hates the idea of legalization. He is THE anti-pot candidate. A great position to have in 1988. Not so much in 2016.
I will say one thing for Governor Christie’s stance: it’s the only thing that seems to get him any news coverage at all. How far will that get him? Time will tell. I would submit that it will not get him very far at all. And this is a very good thing. This country wouldn’t be able to withstand it.
Can you imagine a Christie Administration?
