For decades (its origins still largely unconfirmed), 420 has been celebrated by millions as one of the world’s greatest unofficial holidays. It’s a time for all cultures, all personalities, all subspecies of stoner and cannabis enthusiast to come together as one in celebration of a plant that has gifted and improved the lives of so many, despite being shunned and misconstrued by even more.
Still today, entire sects of society are restricted (geographically, legally, or otherwise) from the festivities. Even those not technically restricted face alienation simply by a lack of understanding and exposure.
When you think about cannabis, usually the subject of Amsterdam pops up somewhere along the way. Amsterdam has always been thought of as the “Capital of Cannabis” since it was the first city to introduce cannabis cafes (or “coffee shops”) in the early 1970s where locals could go spark a joint without The Man (i.e., the government) breathing down their backs. However due to the country’s new laws, it’s not nearly as simple as one might have thought.
